Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I need a referral for OT services?

No! In the state of New Mexico you do not need a physician referral for occupational therapy evaluation and treatment. We will be happy to communicate with your current medical and/or dental team and collaborate to ensure your best outcomes. If you’d like a report sent to a physician or dentist, just let us know.

  • Do you accept insurance?

No, Ollason Orofacial Therapy is not in-network with insurance companies. We are a cash-based, fee-for-service type business. We can, however, accept your HSA/FSA cards and care credit. We also provide superbills when requested.

In order to improve and simplify the patient experience. by cutting out the middle-man (insurance companies who often dictate the plan of care), patient and practitioner are able to focus on YOUR goals and not those set forth by the insurance companies.

  • What is cash-based OT?

In a cash-based treatment model, the occupational therapist enters into a contract with the patient to provide OT services in a manner that both parties have determined will help them reach treatment goals most efficiently. The patient pays at the time of service, allowing the therapist to focus attention on providing the best possible service while keeping administrative costs low.

Typically, coding for OT services provided (CPT codes) is determined using a complex matrix of "timed codes" and "untimed codes". This often results in confusing patient bills, as the amount billed to insurance will vary visit to visit based on the exact services provided that day. Cash-based billing eliminates this confusion and allows for clarity in decision making on the part of the patient and their provider.

  • What is a superbill?

Because we are an Out of Network provider, we will be unable to file an insurance claim on your behalf. However, we will provide you with a "superbill", a form that you can submit to your insurance company with all the necessary information you need and instruction for them to send reimbursements directly to you. For most insurance companies, you can find a claim form on their website. Simply print it out and submit it along with your receipts and treatment codes that we will provide for you in a 'Superbill'. The amount you are reimbursed is dependent on your 'Out Of Network' benefits.

Please be aware that with any health plans, there may be rejections, and deductibles and co-payments for which you could be responsible.

  • Is cash-based OT more expensive?

Description goes hereIn many cases, the out of pocket expenses for OT services will actually be LESS for services provided at Ollason Orofacial Therapy. We can charge less because the simplified cash-based fee structure streamlines billing and does not require hiring billing personnel or paying fees to a third party billing service. This allows our OT to focus all energy on patient care, and allows patients to make informed decisions regarding the costs of their health care choices.

On average, most patients have insurance deductibles of $5,000 or more. The average OT or PT clinic bills insurance $250 per session, the cost of which is the patient’s responsibility until they meet their deductible. We keep our treatment prices affordable (less than half of what most clinics bill to insurance) with no hidden fees or surprising bills from insurance.

  • Do you take Care Credit?

Yes! Care Credit can be a great and affordable option. Our Care Coordinators are knowledgeable about this program and can help you get started. Ask our front desk staff if you’re interested in more information. re

  • What type of patients do you see?

Ollason Orofacial Therapy focuses on treating patients with TMJ pain and dysfunction. However, anyone experiencing facial or neck pain is a great candidate for the services we offer. Patients with headache and migraine also benefit from treatment.

  • What should I expect at my first appointment?

You will fill out evaluation forms when you arrive so more time can be focused on beginning treatment. Please arrive 10-15 min before your scheduled time so this doesn’t eat into treatment time. You will have a 90 minute appointment with our OT, please see services page for a full description.

Bring all applicable paperwork, such as any clinical exams you’ve had and any imaging you’ve had of your head or neck. Also please bring or take pictures of any oral device you are currently using.

  • What should I wear?

Please wear comfortable, loose clothing to expose the area we will be treating. Manual work may be done to your neck, chest, or torso so shirts without sleeves or loose enough for the OT to access soft tissues is preferred. Should clothing need to be removed for treatment, the OT will discuss this with the patient at time of treatment and modesty draping will be utilized.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

We have a 24-hour cancellation policy. A $50 fee will be assessed for a late cancel or no show for an initial evaluation, $25 fee for a follow up session. If using a pre-paid treatment bundle appointment, the $25 fee will be charged but that allotted session will not be lost and can be rescheduled. These fees will be waived if the late cancellation or no show is the result of an emergency.

To resume treatment following a late cancel or no-show, the fee will be due before your next visit.
